TopDown-A Retrospect on a Decade of UM: pt 2

Only one person touches the ball every play of every game. This person is usually dubbed as the leader of the team. As go his success so goes the success of the team. Shouldering the losses, glorified in the win, a quarterback is the face of the program. The quarter back was the face of UM football.

The decade has been kind to Michigan from a QB standpoint. Not really gamebreakers but exceptional game managers. They came and went, they went onto the NFL 100% of the time. Michigan arguably snatched QB U from Da U, during this power decade. Still reflecting on the National Title season, the Griese lead offense put up numbers that woul dbe laughed at in the face of the modern game, but it was a game that allowed for 10-7 wins and the like. Where you could throw for 160 yards and 1 TD and still have a great chance to win the game. His senior LEADERSHIP was instrumental in our pursuit of the Holy Grail, and in that pursuit he played beautifully, managed the team, guided the team. The Brady-Henson years were marred with high expectations, less than stellar results. Brady led an exceptiona comeback vs Bama in that classic rosebowl game in 2000, but outside of that, he was in fact a marginal college QB. Once again a Michigan QB just manages a game, we all know how the Brady saga turned out. One QB that Michigan got little out of was Drew Henson. His 2000 campaign was a solid B10 C0-Champ leading effort, but his tenure was cut so very short. His mind wasnt in football, his mind was somewhere in Center-Left catching pop flies being bored as hell for the rest of his life. Forewent his Senior year in hopes the Yankees would give him a shot, when Frankly the Yankees only give chances to players who actually play in the bigs. Wasted talent, failed hope....member of the Lions(LoL). In his departure came Navarre, a qb who was as mobile as he was a great decision maker. You ask he set B10 records at Michigan, and my screenname is a variant of his name(NayVar.....Navarre), how could he be a bad QB? HE HAD HELP! He did brilliant, however, against tUOS. This is a commodity that has escaped the Michigan mantra lately. Matt Guttierrez....sorry you never got to add mobility to our offense. After Guttierrez tore his vagina getting out of the car, in which the keys were just handed to him(the car was the Michigan Offense) ushered in the birth of Tacopants. Chad Henne, was a good quarterback, solid skills, but had lapses in skill 30% of the time.

  • Tacopants Career Stats
  • Thrown to 45 times
  • 39 Catches(some were to high)
  • 7 TDs
Tacopants is a mythical Michigan wide reciever who is 8+ feet tall, as many of Henne's passes sailed over the heads of our 6'4" WR's as they were obviously intended for Tacopants. I remember him throwing the ball away on 4th down on the goalline in a loss to Notre Dame a few years back(it was so laughable NCAA 09 made it one of their achievements). However, after analising the video, the pass was to Tacopants, he caught it out of bounds. The memories of the 2006 Ohio State game. The only thing I want to remember is Manningham having just punked Malcom Jenkins is wide open, Henne overthrows him. I cry. A video is dedicated to Cahd Henne on youtube. He quietly leaves Michigan 0-4 vs tUOS.

After all of this, this year we are left with 3 Freshman who cant rekindle any of the magic that Joh Navarre or Chad Henne had. The magic being ability to throw the ball with any degree of consistency. Well we haven't actually gotten a look at Feagin yet, but RR tells us he's injured and he sucks. Well so does Sheridan.....and so ends 10 years of id say ABOVE Average quarterback play.

Mmmmmmm, Feagin Leading The PACK!!!!!!!!

Michigan Mid Week Mantra

It's about pride now. For the TEAM. Keeping the name of Michigan on the minds of the people. We are in this for us and the 100s that played and watched before us. Work hard and the results will come, be nonchalant about it and prepare for bulk fail. Everything Michigan is not made Michigan everything it is. A fall from grace? No. A recession? Leave it to the economy. Irrelevancy? If we are irrelevant why do we have so many haters and consistently on National Television? Product of the college football environment, a post apocalyptia for the good ole days. It's the fastest who gets paid, and the fastest who gets laid. Maybe Reese Bobby was onto something. Look at past MNC. LSU, UF, TX, USC all had speed. A solid route runner is no longer required if you can run the route poorly but leave the defender in the dust. As the progression continues to smaller and faster are we really making CFB a spectacle of offensive prowess? Seems no one can play defense anymore. The only team in the current top 5 that looks like it plays any defense would be USC, but we all know how they look when it comes to lesser programs. A Michigan west if you will. WIN THE GAMES YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO. Looking off into the CFB horizon, the B10 is in the middle of reconstruction, the Pac 10 is still and will always bee the PAc 1, the ACC is, SEC always prides them selves on defense has watched LSU give up a 50 spot....TWICE, and the b12 has 9 out of the top 5 heisman candidates this year, weird coincidence they all play quarterback. Nicky Whelan pours her sweat into what she loves......I don't see that at UM anymore.

Top Down- A Retrospect on a Decade of UM: pt 1

I'm not going to pretend that I know all about Michigan Football there is to know. I'm not even gonna act like I know all there is to know about Michigan football since birth. I wasn't born blue, I was adopted by BLUE. Blue helped me escape. BLUE has been there for me and i have been there for BLUE. For the next few days I'll give my personal look back at some of the names and faces of Michigan Football for me.

YOU'RE MY BOY BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coaching-To train or tutor or to act as a trainer or tutor.

I want to say this first, I am fully behind Rich Rodriguez, I am a firm believer in he is the right man for the job. I am 99% confident in his decision making(Sheridan playing at all loses him 1%). However, up until this season I have only known one coach for the boys in blue. 12 years of Lloyd Carr. Don't remember much about the Moeller years, this might be a good thing. About 64% of my life has been devoted to this one man. A groomed "Michigan Man" heir to the throne that Moeller kept warm after the departure of Bo. Lloyd did so much for this program. He brought us back to prominence after decades of staying out of the national spotlight. He was a gun from the old west. He was a fiery and tenacious coach and his teams followed suit. Then something happened.....the team loss hunger, the team lost focus, the team became OVERRATED year in and year out. Why Lloyd, why? Why did you force us to do the unthinkable. It still pains me to think of 2000 w/ losses to UCLA, Purdue and NW; and 01' going down to the Huskies....Oregon in 03 and the Horror of last year. Lloyd these are games that derailed title seasons. We had the parts in place, we had the stars aligned, we just couldn't get the result. The game sort of left you behind. Not far enough behind, but where 8-4 would not cut it anymore. Some spoiled brats we are.....

You gave us 12 years of your life and we thank you. You gave us many memories or what we are. You made us earn back our respect, Michigan rose to the challenge and we will rise once again. Your steady hands molded us into something great again. I just wish we could've found another way to handle the end of the long road. We hold thy near Lloyd........help guide us. I miss seeing Lloyd on the sidelines. I miss his scowl and his one word half time interviews, I miss the only coach I've ever really known.

No Turning Back: Michigan vs Michigan State

Listening To: Take Off the Blues by Foreign Exchange
Forecast: Autumnal Color Shift

Years and years of frustration are being levied against Michigan this year. Decade long streaks are falling left and right. Not to teams that are in the national spotlight, but middle of the pack who pile on after the play NFL Blitz style. Hats off to all who made this possible, The NCAA and the B10 welcome the humbling of one of the nations most storied programs. Martin can't go back now, the fans can't hide their heads now. We wanted this, the rest of the nation prayed for this to happen and now it all has been realised. Michigan is down, Michigan is out, Michigan is looking to find those answers. The faces have changed, the attention too, but this is Michigan and we will not quit.

Relax, this season is a test of Michigan....360 degrees.

Xtra Points
  • The secondary is just not getting it. It just isnt there. Not saying Michigan secondaries have ever been quality but this squad just doesn't have it. Trent is not a man to man guy, hell he's not a zone guy either. He is a very smart player, and extremely fast. Not sure how this doesn't correlate into an above average CB. D. Warren, you are biting too hard relax kid, we all know you are phenomenal, let the game come to you. Brandon Harrison, so instrumental in "The Horror" of 07, also integral in our B10 2007 resurgence, know your position. Charles Stewart and Stevie Brown....a Costco size bulk FAIL or a basket full of F***. Take your pick. Cissoko will be very very good soon.
  • Obi-wan, you were expected to mentor the younger guys when it almost seems as they are mentoring you 40% of the time. Getting sucked up into the line is not a better excuse for a missed assignment than "I got blocked coach."
  • Brandon Graham stay for another year please.
  • Our condolences go out to Sam McGuffie, he found out this isn't Cy-Fair and left al ittle of himself on the field yesterday.
  • Second straight week of Minor as the starter, 2nd straight week of a successful running game. McGuffie should be used as the slot as I have said all YEAR through various media.
  • Who Is James Rogers and why is he starting?
  • Special teams are vastly improving, Zoltan is still a straight up G and our KR team i think is finally set. However, MSU kick misses were more a product of it being Sparty than anything we did....Warren needs to work on his scoop and score abilities.
  • OL, yea whatever.
  • Threet you gotta start making those throws baby. This is week 8 and you still hit bubble screens with about 60% accuracy, your deep ball lacks a little touch and your post throws are not strong enough. Never thought I'd say I miss Ryan Malletts throwing. Elusiveness. I'm not asking you to be the second coming of Reggie Bush(619), but a lot of the sacks you have given up this year are mostly you tripping over yourself or incapability to stay on your feet if you get bumped into. You are, however, looking better and better on your draw plays, the feet are becoming an asset in the most remote way. Also, WHO THROWS A DEEP BALL TO A FULLBACK? MOUNDROS HAD NO CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Our WR's looked confused if its not a bubble screen or short slant.
  • 3rd straight B10 game where we have given up 21+ unanswered points.
  • Is this because the Barwis system isn't working? I don't see the opposing teams wearing down, I see both sides of the Michigan offense wearing down. Have we stopped the training? Or are we just slow overall, because if Blair White a white Walk-on receiver from Nebraska can torch the D to the tune of 5000000+ yards then something is wrong. Well you might say that is racist, that I am holding white receivers to a lower standard. Sure maybe it is, but you can't deny the glaring fact the best skill position players are 9/10 blacks. Props to Blair for exposing how long its going to be before we can contend for a Natl Title let alone B10 title.

So this leaves the program where? We can only hope that one day we will play a complete game. We can't just play one quarter or one half anymore, we have to give it 60 minutes. We have the time, it is forever fleeting.......The youth factor persists on BOTH sides of the ball, but is more prevalent on the offensive side. 10/11 being fresh faces will never click consistently in year one. On defense they say they were supposed to carry this time while the offense gets its feet wet, however they didnt realise what our D had last year. Jamar Adams, Brandent Englemon and Shawn Crable made that D. Our replacement safeties this year couldnt hold a candle to what we had last year or to anyone for that matter. So sit back, kick up your feet and enjoy the fact you atleast get to watch BLUE every weekend, we coul dbe some other program where you may or may not catch your team play, but we aren't we are Michigan, the ALL TIME, The Victors.

Kick off your shoes, take off the BLUES and come to me.......So much to do, so much is meant for you to see. You might as well, come a little closer.......

Case of Blue Balls: Michigan vs PSU

Listening To: Selfish by Slum Village ft Kanye West
Forecast: Partly Sunny

Blue balls can strike any man in America who happens to know some bouncy co-ed affiliated with any of the sorostitution rings on campuses nationwide. The biggest worry is will she throw up before or after i get her pants off......PRAY FOR THE FORMER.

I wasn't expecting us too keep it close, I wasn't expecting us to keep PSU from covering the spread. I was however given hope twice in this game.

  • When you are up 7-0 on a team on the road FG's wont cut it. We had the opportunity to shut up the "white out" early in this game, we settled for 3 and they score 2 plays later. I know it was a poor tease, but we were dominating the VAUNTED Penn State defense with players i wouldn't trust with the Large Hadron Collider. Our bad, we let em off the hook.

  • J. Feagin sighting. In pads. Apparently taking snaps on the sideline. Burn his redshirt please, its no tlike hes going to be starting all 4 of his years at Mich as RR recruits more players to fit his system. Slot guys are spose to be very quick. Feagin is not Odoms. Odoms is a beast. Feagin can't be worse than Sheridan. They claim his passes down field suck, well this offense goes downfield 2-3 times a game so that isn't a good excuse.

Mmmmmmmmm, SPARTY!!!

  • ZONE, ZONE, ZONE, get it the hell out, we give up too many intermediate passes.
  • Send Nick Sheridan on his way, defenses know when he comes in there is 0 threat of pass, and 0 threat of run really. Only reason he should ever be in the game is if Threet is ablaze on the sideline. I'd rather watch Carlos Brown when Threet is injured. GIMME THE FEEZ, please.
  • Positive turnover margin.....HOOOOOOOOOOLLLLEEEEEEEE SHIT.
  • Penn St D gaveup more pts than Miami OH and Toledo.
  • Thomspon loves to hit.
  • Morgan Trent does not.
  • Rich Rod has to teach discipline.
  • Make Adjustments!
  • Threet runs in slow motion......the defense runs themselves out of position.
  • Finally Minor gets utilized properly and McGuffie aswell.
  • Preserved the no shut out streak!!!!!!!!!!
  • PLAY-Action baby.
Final Thoughts: SPARTY.

Sooner or Later: Michigan vs Toledo

Listening To: Sooner or Later by N.E.R.D
Forecast: ........

Sooner or later it all comes crashing down (crashing down)
Crashing down (crashing down)
When everyones around
I bet you would of paid up all your cash down (your cash down)
And not make a sound (to make a sound)
When everyone knows now

So your sad
About the moment
You lost your love (damn)
You couldn't see her leaving (you were gassed)
And that sucks don't it
Cause god yanked the rug
And holding your heart will not help you breathe

Let me get this out of the way first....

  • Consecutive non losing season
  • Consecutive bowl appearances
  • Consecutive wins against PSU
  • MAC Wins
Sooner or later, IT ALL COMES CRASHING DOWN........

All my enthusiasm has now been taken out of me, my support still strong but the results are not going to come. This year are skin will get tougher like never before. It's really bad when Wisconsin fans can say something about the team, and you actually respond with anything other than 27-25.

However, lets get off RRs back. So its a non issue this year, this is a bad team and Michigan fans need to realise that and stop jumping all over the coaching staff. Let this year play out and we take our lumps, we've been on top for some 30 years now, and one down year makes everyone question the hiring......This isn't your Daddy's Michigan, 3 yards and a cloud of dust days are gone babe, the system is being installed, we are currently at about 15% complete.....sit back and just appreciate that we do have wins.

Goes without saying......Threet is progressing very little if at all week to week. Sheridan regresses every time he gets on the field. McGuffie runs scared at times. The D doesnt appear to have any fight in it, by way of not believing in the offense. I pray that the locker room is not becoming devided and I hope the 09 recruits still give us a look. Getting in on the ground floor would could appear to be a one of the darkest years in Michigan hisotry.

Visiting teams to Michigan stadium, show some class.......Thats 3 out of 4 teams that have celebrated in our stands after we lost, the 4th team lose to us. The Michigan Stadium wall is reserved for Michigan players, its reserved for those who stayed, it is reserved for CHAMPIONS.

So lets buckle em up and play for the name on the front of the jersey(I know Michigan isnt on the front) and not the name on the back of the jersey. Have some pride, lets go out and shock the world, lets go out and ruin Penn States season, lets go out and turn the b10 upside down!

Michigan Mid Week Mantra

Back again for another one of our funny f'ing capers. Michigan Football or something like it. Can we just line up T&A every week and maybe we will false start our way to a win via safety or a "busted" play where the girls shenanigans of grab ass spirals into 6.....some how. Illinois had a great game plan, stop the bubble screen and McGuffie run right. Their offense is more mature than ours, no real shock there. I haven't seen sleight of hand like that since.....

Either way, the only thing more inconsistent that Michigan right now is the Big Ten Network......COME TO PENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN STATEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

Newswire:

More 2010 recruits, way to go. We are building a class of kids ready to run RR system, or atleast at this point in their Jr year of HS they are in love with the idea of Michigan.

Odoms=full time return man: The cosmos has finally gotten it right!

Rich Rod called the team soft: Well its true, McGuffie is pretty frail when it comes to being an every down back like RR is using him as. No one can hang onto the ball...SOFT. Willing to roll over at home in front of 109k...SOFT.

Bringing up Michigan in conversation with people is now becoming awkward:

We even suck in year 3 on NCAA 09

So I'm in this Online Dynasty for NCAA 09 with some people I sort of know. Its year 3, I've never beaten the Buckeyes, never won a bowl game(Rose Bowl L, Cap 1 Bowl L), yet pull in top 4 recruiting classes every year, just can't beat user controlled teams with a OVR Rating higher than 96(yes we have a tUOS user in the league).......anyway

Tied a 21, 2:30 left in the 4th, driving on UF(99 ovr) vs Michigan(81 OVR) Feagin(91 Accuracy) has been spot on with this throw all game, and what happens? Incomplete, I end up turning it over on 4th down, lose by a FG 24-21. Don't give me any bs about setting your feet either......

UPDATE!!!!!
I just lost to USF 13-18, welcome to bizarro world Michigan 1-2 now

Ummmmm, Yeah...........Michigan vs Illinois

Listening To: Breakin' My Heart by Little Brother
Forecast: Flood Warning

Can you call Michigan this year a bad team? Can you call us a good team? The Jekyll and Hyde performances prevent you from making any significant critiques. 6-6 looks like an improbable task one week, and a comfy challenge the next. After the 500th game spectacle no one estimated we could see anything close to that again.

THAT JUST HAPPENED!!!!!!!

An outer perspective of UM games so far this year
  • Terrible first half vs Utah.
  • Terrible second half vs Miami OH.
  • Who's Who Halves vs ND......Ill Take Second.
  • Terrible two thirds vs Wisconsin.
  • Terrible errr ummmm three fourths vs Illinois?
Now if you add all that up you can see Michigan has played about a complete 1/7th of a game this season.......this has to improve. We were up 14-3, at home what happened?

I'll Show you here

Now if you notice the bloke in the scarf is a analogous to Benn, Juice, Dufrene, major national recruits etc, we just can't seem to get a hold of them this year. The people wearing yellow would symbolize....well take your pick on the UM defense. Me has a feeling Nike is behind this. The grounds crew had no answer for this streaker, he taunted them the entire time, similar to Juice letting us think we had a chance while up 14-3.

Still not convinced?

Exhibit F
&

As you can see in both these photos Michigan players are behind the ball carrier. A wise man once said "Score few points than the other team, you shall lose", he also came up with "No grass on the field, then play in the dirt." Whatever became of him cant be for certain. Michigan spent alot of time looking at the backside of the other team in both these contests, its just a coincidence we lost both of them.

Looking inside
  • Great start!
  • Very disappointed in the LB play today, looked sophmorish out there.
  • Threet, you still have no touch on the ball, suggest to RR to set up some sort of touch improvement drill in practice. Like erecting a huge wall in front of you and your intended receiver.
  • Richard Rodriguez, I thought we addressed the fumbling issues?
  • Odoms is more the TRUTH than the Mixtape Messiah. Get this kid in space or hell and hes going to succeed. Suffered from the trying to win it all in one play bug though.
  • Why was Charles Stewart in on that 77yd TD pass?
  • Why wasn't Charles Stewart in on the 65 yd screen td?
  • What is with losing sight of Benn on any offensive play? Juice has two offensive options, Benn or himself. We got inoculated by both today.
  • Juice Heisman campaign now in full swing at ESPN
  • ABC tv coverage gets worse each week, terrible camera, terrible color commentary, terrible fact checking.
  • Halftime adjustments were worse than what we did in the first half.
  • Barwis shed a tear.
  • Gotta pass to open up the run, gotta run to open up the pass. Slants work, throwing behind the LOS not so much. McGuffie pitch on 3rd and goal=dumb as hell. Seen better playcalling in NCAA 09.
  • Speaking of NCAA 09, if it weren't for that game I wouldn't have been able to understand the inherent complexities of the Zooker offense, thank you ABC for that in depth look, sweet TD!
  • We improved in the team celebrating on our field department. Not only do they celebrate in our stands and on our field, now they also break records. Most points ever given up in TBH and most pass yards ever in TBH(yes thats ever, thats 1929, that's all qb's, that should be held by a UM player.)

Final Thought: Time to go water ski!

Michigan Mid Week Mantra

Eva Longoria is desperate. Not too desperate but desperate enough to be on a hit TV show that you are quite familiar with the name. Now I have never watched more than a few episodes of this show, it seems her character is purely EYE CANDY. Studies show that eyes like candy, their preferred candy of choice has to be FUN-DIP. Do your eyes a favor and pour Fun-Dip directly into them, and thank me later. Anyway, the sad state of TV sideline anchors and color commentary(yes Pam Ward we're looking at you), has caused Michigan to hire their own personal Sideline report/Color Commentator for all regular season home games. Eva has the knack for working.....well she has a knack, and not a bad one at that. Whatever it is she does she does it VERY WELL!!!!!!! INDEED.

News

We have a commit for class of 2010: Ricardo Miller-WR. He will change his mind about committing by mid November, remind me who this kid is by next June, kthxbai.

Good God, that Block M was majestic!

Looking at the schedule we have a chance of going 6-6 and a bolw game, EASY.
Illinois, TOLEDO, PURDUE, SPARTY, MINNY and NW. Gotta Win 4/6. Now we see how big those losses to ND and UTAH really are but as the B10 has showed this year, its being its normal sorry as hell self and bowing down to the traditional powers(PSU, MICH, tUOS*) this isnt outside of the realm of possibility for us to be 8-3 going into the tUOS* game.

*the University of Ohio State

Upset Saturday: Whatever, they weren't good teams you can refer to THIS. Now answer this, how many of those teams lost on "Upset Saturday"? Mmmmmmm, cupcakes.

Streaking down 19 to up

Johnny Sears Award of Futility

Candidates

Rich Rod-Im not sure what you preach during the week, but its obviously not BALL security or playing within yourself. Maybe this week we can limit it to 2-3 turnovers and a 3pt first half.

Morgan Trent-Coverage.

Coverage Maps: This doesn't work this also is dumb only to be topped by an unranked slugfest! Listen ABC, people want to see the big matchups. While the homer pick was Wisky vs UM watching the snoozefest that was Sparty vs Indiana til 4:02pm due to both teams unable to stop stepping on their own balls. Dont ever put a Nebraska game on NATL tv ever again.

Winner****

Rich Rod....Fumbling the ball in practice is no big deal if you don't teach them it IS a big deal.
